Xpert DIY: A Blogger’s Hollywood Hair How-ToApril 26, 2016 7:22 pm
We, as a society, have made our fair share of regrettable hair choices. I know I was not the only first-grader who suffered a fresh bowl cut on photo day. We all had to deal with velvet scrunchies and teased bangs.
But somehow, the starlets of the 1940s knew the secret to on-point hair. They never arrived on the Red Carpet with crimped ponytails or misguided highlights. Their go-to style- voluminous, soft curls- has been a mainstay of the beauty industry for decades.
To copy Jess’s classic style, all you’ll need is a flex-hold hair spray, some duck bill hair clips and a 1-1.5 inch barrel curling iron (Jess recommends our 5-in-1 curler).
To begin, Jess advises thoroughly brushing out your hair and misting it lightly with hairspray. Then, section it into pieces about 2-fingers wide.
Jess emphasizes that you need to curl your hair TOWARDS your face in order to achieve the Old Hollywood vibe. Her trick to maximum volume is clamping the iron in the middle of the section of hair instead of the end, then wrapping the end of hair around the outside of the clamp.
Jess says to keep the curl on heat only for a few seconds; long enough for the hair to feel hot to the touch. You’ll let the curl set by pinning it in place.
Once the whole head has been pinned and cooled, Jess finishes off by brushing through the curls with a natural bristled brush spritzed with hairspray.
Your end result will look pretty much exactly like this:
