WHY Balenciaga?! : The Paris FW Trend ReportMarch 12, 2016 7:47 pm
Paris Fashion Week was a roller coaster of emotion. Silent tears of “it’s all so good” joy were shed over everything at Zuhair Murad, while the Balenciaga show so thoroughly confused me that I had to leave work five hours early to do some deep breathing and regroup. As for an overall trend report…
WITCH LIPS PART DEUX: See what I did there? When in Paris. Really though, vampy pouts popped up again at Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent, so they have been cemented as a definite Thing for Fall/Winter. And if anyone questions why you are wearing matte violet lipstick to the Laundromat you just adjust your tiara and declare “BECAUSE FASHION.”
CENTER SPLITS: Can’t do it in hot yoga, can do it in hair (and if you can do it in hot yoga, keep it to yourself because I’m jealous). From Hermes to Sonia Rykiel to Nina Ricci, the classic center part was holding court in a major way. If you’re blessed with shiny flowing princess hair, you can just stop reading now, because you’re good to go. The rest of us mortals probably need a little pizazz to pull this off. Grab a large barrel curling iron to intersperse some body into your style, or go Gwyneth P sleek with a little help from a Black Silk straightener.
FAUX MULLET: For no easily explainable reason, this trend has dominated the shows across the board. At Paris FW, it was spotted in Miu Miu and Giambattista Valli. It starts out as a sleek, wet slicked look, but then once the nape of the neck is reached the hairstylists are just like “nah JK” and the rest of the hair is left as-is. This is definitely the kind of look you only want to try at a GNO with your close friends. We wouldn’t advise debuting it on a first date, at your wedding or any occasion that might involve pictures that are passed down generationally.
BLACK EYES: Have you ever tried to create a sultry dark eye look and ended up looking like you just had major rhinoplasty? It’s totally okay, because that’s chic now. Givenchy, Sacai, Nina Ricci and Saint Laurent all got a little emo and painted their eyes black this season. It’s going to be a good year for all the overzealous eyeliner enthusiasts out there.
FROSTY ACCENTS: For a hefty dose of pretty, channel Stella McCartney or Valentino and dab some silvery shadow along the edges and corners of your eyes and nose. Or just lacquer both your eyebrows with silver polish because Moncler did it so it can’t be wrong. This is another great way to freak out your boyfriend on date night.Сomments аrchive
