Faux Couture: Fashion Week Makeup IRLMarch 30, 2016 7:09 pm
Some days, you wake up at six, kick ass in SoulCycle, waterfall braid your hair and roll up to brunch wearing a complicated romper situation.
Some days, you wake up at noon, order a bagel, and then fall back asleep until you are summoned by the doorbell. It’s called “me time”, people. And it’s important.
Unfortunately, life is cruel, and sometimes you have to pull yourself together and venture out into the world even on days when pants weren’t on the agenda.
Such times call for the ubiquitous “lazy girl” beauty routines. But here is what They don’t want you to know: easy beauty can still be chic beauty. Several of the freshest looks for Spring also happen to be insanely simple, too.
Like, you can do them using the selfie-cam on your iPhone, simple. Milk-every-last-minute-of-bed-comfort, simple.
I strongly suggest trying faux freckles, fake lashes and hair extensions on your next date night just to see if your boyfriend can even figure out what exactly has changed. To channel Pippi Longstocking, all you need is a brown eyeliner pencil or this new Freckle Pencil and a matte powder. Lightly press the pencil across your nose and underneath your eyes, dab off excess with a blotting sheet or tissue and seal them with a dusting of powder.
Remember all those years you spent struggling to make your eyeliner even? The beauty industry doesn’t care anymore. Put your liner under your brows! Angle one line up and one line down, for all they care! Just don’t be basic and use it to line your eyes. What do you need for this look? One tube of liner, and one set of shaky hands.
Isn’t undereye liner the first makeup look we all play with? When you’re 13, nothing says rebel without a cause like aggressive black eye makeup. Thankfully, this look has matured. Use your favorite kohl pencil and apply thickly but smoothly and cleanly to the bottom waterline, leaving the top of the eye bare.
Matte Red Lips
This beauty choice looks even stronger with minimal other makeup. Which is fab, because other makeup requires more effort. In this case, laziness is the chicer option. Brick red, cherry red, classic red; the sky is the limit. To keep it current, apply it with your finger and top if with matte powder.
This is not a joke: greasy skin is in. So, if you are blessed with authentic shine, this makeup look requires literally no effort. Don’t even bathe; just throw on pants and go. If you are concerned with hygiene, there is an alternate way to fake the glow: vaseline. But before you start slathering your cheekbones and eyelids with petroleum jelly, I would advise doing some light touch-ups to any blemishes or redness with a concealer. Nobody needs a shiny pimple.
